Power of Attorney
Many foreigners want to buy, sell or settle a matter in Türkiye without travelling back and forth. A correctly drafted power of attorney makes that possible: we represent you at the land registry, notary and authorities, within the exact limits you set.
What a power of attorney is for
A power of attorney (vekâletname) authorises a representative to act within defined limits. For foreign clients it is the key to completing matters in Türkiye without being present, from a property transfer in Fethiye or Bodrum to a banking, residence or inheritance step. Many remote transactions on the Muğla coast rest on a correctly prepared power of attorney.
How it is issued
A power of attorney may be issued before a Turkish notary, or from abroad before a Turkish consulate, or as a notarised document with apostille and sworn translation. A passport is required and, for those who do not speak Turkish, an interpreter attends at the notary. The specific powers being granted must be stated clearly.
Scope, limits and revocation
A carefully drafted power of attorney grants only the powers needed for the specific matter, rather than open-ended authority, and it can be limited in time. It can also be revoked. A clear, limited scope protects the client while still allowing the work to be completed.
A note on accuracy
Formalities and the documents required can change and may depend on where the power of attorney is issued. The principles above are stable; for the wording and steps suited to a particular matter, please contact the office.

FAQ
- What is a power of attorney in Türkiye?
- It is a document (vekâletname) authorising a representative to act on your behalf within stated limits, for example to complete a property, banking or inheritance matter.
- Can I buy or sell property with a power of attorney without coming?
- In many cases, yes. A power of attorney that authorises representation at the notary and Land Registry allows the transfer to be completed on your behalf.
- Where can I issue a power of attorney from abroad?
- Before a Turkish consulate, or as a document notarised in your country with apostille and sworn translation. The right method depends on your location.
- What powers should it include?
- Only the powers needed for the specific matter. Property, banking and litigation steps each require their own clearly stated authority.
- Can I limit or cancel a power of attorney?
- Yes. It can be limited in scope and time, and it can be revoked. A limited scope is recommended for safety.
- Is a translation required?
- For those who do not speak Turkish, an interpreter attends at the notary, and foreign documents generally require sworn translation.
