FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions foreigners ask most about Turkish law. For your specific situation, please contact the office.
- Can foreigners buy property in Türkiye?
- Yes. Citizens of most countries can buy property in Türkiye, subject to limits on total area and on certain military or security zones. A title check and a foreigner valuation report are part of the process.
- Can I buy or sell property in Türkiye without travelling there?
- Usually yes, with a power of attorney. A properly limited PoA, issued at a Turkish notary or at a consulate abroad, lets your lawyer complete the transfer on your behalf.
- Do I need a residence permit to buy a house in Türkiye?
- No. You can buy property without a residence permit. Owning property can, in turn, support certain residence applications, but the purchase itself does not require one.
- Can foreigners inherit property in Türkiye?
- Yes. Foreign heirs can inherit property in Türkiye. The estate is generally handled under Turkish rules; heirs obtain a certificate of inheritance and then transfer the assets into their names.
- How long does an inheritance procedure take in Türkiye?
- It depends on the assets and whether all heirs agree. A straightforward transfer can be relatively quick once the certificate of inheritance is issued; disputes or missing documents take longer. We give a realistic estimate after reviewing the file.
- How can a foreigner obtain Turkish citizenship?
- There are several routes, including citizenship by a qualifying property investment and routes based on residence or family. Which one fits depends on your situation; we assess eligibility before any step is taken.
